Kidpower India provides trainings to young people in safety skills. The trainings focus on the power children have to think, move and use their voices to stay safe. Children have the opportunity to practise using this power in role-play situations. The workshops are designed to be hands-on, effective with a proven positive method. A full training consists of 4 hours, which includes Everyday Safety Skills, Confidence Building and Physical Skills on the Kickpad. Shorter workshops of 2 hours are also available.

Workshops are available for children from 6-12 years (Kidpower), for teenagers from 12-18 years (Teenpower) and for adults above 18 years (Fullpower). We usually give workshops in cooperation with schools and or organizations or groups.

For Kidpower and Teenpower workshops we ask at least one adult from the receiving organization to be present at the training. Often the training is found to be useful for all the parents, teachers and caretakers present. The adults learn new skills how to help the children to keep safe.

The Kidpower workshops include Every Day Safety skills from five categories: Safety with Feelings and Words (how to protect yourself from hurting words), Getting Help to be Safe (how to make safety plans and be persistent in getting help from busy adults), Safety with Touch and Teasing (how to set boundaries with people you know), Checking and Thinking first to be Safe and Being Powerful to be Safe (how to use your body to prevent most trouble before it starts).

In addition to these skills we also practise physical self defense skills to be used by children in emergency situations. The children practise the skills in the air and on the kickpad, which is held by the certified instructors.

The trainings are tailored to the ages, abilities and life situations of the children. The trainings are available in English and in Telugu. The trainings are adapted for diffently abled youngsters depending on their abilities and roleplays are adapted to reflect any real life situations which may occur. This can include bullying for children in a school environment, ragging for youngsters in colleges, or harassment for young women in the workplace for instance.

Preventing abuse is so much better than helping after the abuse takes place! In 2008 we have given 11 kidpower workshops to children and teens. We look forward to train many more children and teenagers trained in 2009.
